- Add flowers to your cottage bedroom. Place vases and bouquets of both fresh and silk flowers on your furniture. Dried flower bouquets also work well. Cover your window valance with silk flowers. Create shadow boxes filled with pressed flowers. Wallpaper the inside of your bookcases with floral designs, arranging the books so the wallpaper can easily be seen. Decoupage pictures of flowers on your wood furniture such as your headboard, bureau and night stands.
- Give your cottage bedroom a weathered look. Carefully sand the corners of your furniture to remove the paint or stain so the bare wood can show through. Do this with your wooden shadow boxes, shelves and window ledges. Prominently place worn books on your nightstand and bookcases. Soak white doilies, gloves and other cloth or lace accessories in weak tea to make them look aged and worn.
- Add textures to your room. Place wicker chairs, hampers and chests in your cottage bedroom. Use different types of fabrics such as cotton, linen and taffeta for your bedding, upholstery and window treatments. Use faux painting techniques such as crinkling, ragging and antiquing on your walls and furniture. Not only will this add texture, but it will also add depth and dimension to your cottage bedroom.
- Add fabrics with prints to you cottage bedroom. Floral prints on throw pillows and dust ruffles look wonderful against a solid or striped comforter. Use fabric with wide stripes for your window treatments. Mix both floral prints, stripes and (a few checked) fabrics when you upholster your chairs, benches and ottomans. Remember to add toile de Jouy fabrics to your cottage bedroom. These fabrics can even be framed to create wall art.
