Unusual Sports Fundraising Ideas
Sports teams need to raise money to pay for equipment, coaches and uniforms, and travel expenses to attend championship games often require funds at the last minute. There are many great ways to raise money for your sports team.

Publish Something
-
Desktop publishing and on-demand printing companies make putting together your own team publications manageable. With a couple of parents or team members designing the layout and sending it to the printer, just use word of mouth to let the community know what team materials are being sold an where.
The team might publish a daily exercise routine that supports healthy living. See if you can get a local doctor to sponsor it to further reduce costs and increase popularity. You can provide basic stretching routines and examples of daily exercises that can be done by just about anyone.
Another great publication idea is a cookbook. Gather the team's favorite recipes or game-day food fare, and make each member of the team responsible for at least one entry. If you can include nutritional content such as fat, calories and vitamins, this will be an even bigger hit.
You can also create a season program that illustrates pictures from games with player profiles and statistics. Include a schedule, with a section to note results and scores. This is a keepsake that community members and every team member can value, and it takes little more than compiling pictures and stats you probably already have.
Team Products
-
Create a team spirit line that includes T-shirts for fans, rubber wrist bands, flip flops and hats. Make sure that everything you sell has your team name on it and is in the team colors. Getting a volunteer to run a team store during games with these and other items like water and candy is a great way to gain fan support while making more money.
If you are selling candy, use a company like World's Finest Chocolate that customizes wrappers or M&Ms that will customize messages on the candy. Ask local banks or businesses to place candy items out for sale to help your cause.
Share Yourselves
-
Even local youth sports hold a tremendous amount of respect within the community. Coordinate with your coaches to run a day camp that helps others master the tools that make you successful in your event. Add to the fun by taking team pictures and having autograph sessions for young kids who may look up to the local high school or college heroes.
Challenge the local fire department or police department to a friendly competition and sell tickets and concessions at the event. Communities love a little friendly competition. Include a BBQ to increase the motivation for people to come and watch while enjoying some good food.
