Birthday presents from the year your dad was born make great gifts.

Think outside the box when it comes to birthday present ideas for Dad. Dad works hard to care for the family, whether he works outside the home or is a stay-at-home parent. Give Dad a gift that complements his interests, hobbies and activities. Don't forget to add a themed birthday cake, balloons and flowers for Dad's special day.

    Sporting Items

  1. Give Dad specific collectible items from his favorite team, such as posters, key ring, coffee mug, drink holders or even a team collector's plate. For example, if Dad is into NASCAR, you could give him a mug showing off his favorite driver.

Get Dad equipment for sports he is currently active in. Some suggestions include a new tennis racket with balls or personalized bowling ball with new bowling gloves.

Find out Dad's schedule. Purchase tickets to specific sporting events, such as a football game, baseball game or NASCAR race. Go to the event with Dad.
  2. Personalized Poem

  3. Write a personalized poem for your Dad to express your love. Put references in the poem of specific events you've shared together or memories from your childhood. Order a personalized poem or ask someone you know to help you write one, if you're not a natural-born poet. Frame and wrap the poem for Dad to open and hang on his wall or put on his desk.
  4. Collectible Birthday Year Coin Set

  5. Check with local coin dealers in your area. Purchase one coin of each type that has the year your Dad was born stamped on them. A complete set is a penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar. Also buy a one dollar and five dollar bill that are from your dad's birth year. Place the coins in a coin holder, and place the bills in money collector sleeves.
  6. Reading Collection

  7. Give Dad the latest books from his favorite author, if he is an avid reader. Or give him a complete series from an author he hasn't read in his favorite genre. Buy a small book rack to store the books or bookends, if Dad has plenty of bookshelf room available. Order a monthly magazine subscription related to his hobbies and interests. Write on a note card the magazine subscription information. Wrap the card as you would a present, to let Dad know about the magazine he'll be receiving.
  8. Themed Gift Basket

  9. Give Dad a themed gift basket based on his hobbies and activities. Fill a basket with themes such as gardening items, small tools for home projects, auto accessories, CDs from his favorite artist or the era he was born, or DVDs starring his favorite actor or actress. Cover the basket in colored plastic wrap, after arranging the items. Tape a large bow or ribbons on the top in the center of the basket.
