Anime eye

There are different types of anime eyes and different ways of drawing them. The most commonly seen is the very huge, very round eye with an exaggerated expression. Anime eyes look very shiny and the pupils are usually quite big. Using a few steps you will know how to draw eyes in an anime style.

Drawing the Basic Anime Eye Shapes

  1. Drawing the first anime shapes

    Drawing the first anime shapes
Start off with the basic shapes. The first shape to start with is the arch on top. This should be more of a shape than just a line. Follow that shape with an oval or round shape underneath. The third shape is somewhat like an upside down arch but a little straighter and not quite as long as the top arch. Make the shape go slightly upwards at the outer edge of the bottom line.
  2. Filling in Details.

Darken your eyelid shapes and add a few very distinct eyelash shapes. Again, as with the eyelids, the eyelashes should be shapes not just lines. Darken the outer edge of the oval shape. Draw in one large circle at a top corner in the oval. Draw a smaller circle at the lower edge and diagonally from the large circle. Now draw an outline where the pupil should be, connecting the first two round shapes. The first two are the highlights of the eyes. This is what will make it look shiny and wet.
  4. Finishing the Eye

  5. You are finished. What a great anime eye!

Color in the shapes inside the oval, with a gradation. It should be darker at the top and lighter towards the bottom. You can add an extra fold for the eyelid. This can be a connecting light line above the eyelid. Draw the eyebrow the same way you drew the first eyelid shape. Remember that it is more of a shape than a line. The eyebrow should be thicker towards where the nose would be and thinner as it goes out. You are done!
