Married couples know that, while rewarding, a marriage will not be successful without hard work and sacrifice from each partner. An anniversary should celebrate all the triumphs, joys and even the tribulations the couple has endured together. Many couples choose to mark an anniversary with expensive gifts or trips. A wedding anniversary need not be expensive, however. There are many free yet enjoyable ways to mark the anniversary milestone.

    Celebrate at Home

  1. Woman in bed

Staycations, as stay-at-home vacations are known, are underrated. But when money is tight or a budget demands it, a staycation may be just the type of anniversary trip you are looking for. Staycation anniversary gifts may include allowing your spouse to sleep in, cleaning the house for your spouse, cooking a good meal out of ingredients that are already in your pantry and refrigerator or challenging your spouse to a round of her favorite board games. The key to a successful staycation is to find activities both partners can enjoy and that can be done without leaving the comfort of home.
  2. Give the Gift of Massage

  3. Man getting a massage

Nothing says love better than touch. A massage is a welcome gift for any hardworking spouse. Tell your spouse you love him with a warm, gentle massage and he will likely remember this anniversary forever.

To appropriately set the mood, play soft music and light some candles. Invite your spouse to wrap up in a comfy soft towel and find a comfortable place to lay down. Using softly scented lotions can make the experience all the more enjoyable.
  4. Take a Camping Trip

  5. Campfire

Is your spouse the outdoors type? If so, celebrate this anniversary with a free trip to the great outdoors. Camping trips need not cost anything. All it takes is access to a beautiful outdoor location (even your backyard will do) and you're all set in the romance department. Whether cooking S'Mores over a campfire, telling stories under the stars late at night or enjoying a mid-day hike through the woods, camping will light the fires of romance more than even the most expensive of gifts.
  6. Give Free Gift Certificates

  7. Breakfast in bed

Give the gift that keeps on giving with a book of gift "certificates." Add your own flair by creating a book of homemade booklet containing redeemable certificates for gifts of service. Ideas for redeemable "services" can include a homecooked meal of the recipient's choice, a foot massage, a day free of household responsibilities or an offer of breakfast in bed. This gift is sure to be a hit.
