Sell Large Items to LocalsDepending on the types of items you want to sell, Craigslist is the first place I would list because it is free to post. Furniture, baby clothes and items, boats, appliances and video games are just a few of the categories that sell well on Craigslist. If you're not sure how much to ask for an item go to the postings and see if there are similar items for sale and how much is being asked for those items. Another reason you might look for similar items is to see how many of that particular item are being advertised. If there are many of the same items, it might take a while to sell or you might want to lower the price to get a buyer's attention. Craigslist is the best place to sell your larger items because it targets mostly local buyers, so you won't have to worry about shipping costs. -
Get Ready to NegotiateYard sales are a great way to market local buyers as well. It's an easy way to get all of your items out for sale at one time. All you need for a yard sale are some signs to advertise, a posting of your yard sale on Craigslist for free, a posting in the local newspaper and getting the word out to your neighbors and friends. Make sure you check the weather and have a backup plan in case it rains, like moving to the garage. For the items that are left that you just want to get rid of, donate them to a charity or church. For those items you believe will sell, advertise them on Craigslist, eBay or Amazon. -
Sell Small Items OnlineIf you have small items that can be easily shipped, you can sell your items on Amazon or eBay. With Amazon and eBay you will reach buyers from all over the country and even the world. Things such as books, DVDs and collectibles are easier to sell through these online sites because there are people who may specifically be collecting certain items or who are in need of purchasing textbooks for school at a discounted rate. The only negative aspects with selling through Amazon and eBay are the fees or commissions that are charged along with shipping rates. If you have a bulk collection of small items it may be worth the fees to sell or it may be worth the fee if you have no local buyers who will purchase these items.
