How to Make Pokemon Level Up Quickly in "Pokemon FireRed"

While you won't enjoy all of the conveniences of later generations, you can still make your leveling experience in "Pokemon FireRed" more efficient, getting you in and out of the gyms as fast as leaders can hand you a badge. "LeafGreen" players can also use the same strategies in their game.

Rare Candy

The most direct way to level your Pokemon is to use a Rare Candy. These vitamins grant your creature just enough experience to push them into the next level, even if it was just a battle away from leveling on its own. In other words, it is most efficient to use one right after your Pokemon levels up. In "FireRed," you can find Rare Candy hidden throughout the region, including several routes, using the Pickup ability.

Lucky Egg

Introduced in Generation II, the Lucky Egg boosts experience gains by 50 percent for the Pokemon holding it. For example, where it would earn 100 experience, the Pokemon would earn 150 instead. Even though it wasn't in the original "Red," you can capture a wild Chansey to get an egg in "FireRed." This Pokemon can only be found in the Safari Zone.

Experience Share

Present in the original game, Experience Share favors its holder rather than the entire party in "FireRed." If it is holding this item, your Pokemon shares whatever experience the participants earned for winning a battle. If the holder is one of the contenders, that Pokemon gets 75 percent of the total experience and the remainder is distributed to the others. On the second floor of Route 15's gate, Professor Oak's aide will give you this item.

Day Care

If you're trying to raise a few backup Pokemon that don't join you on the road, you don't have to sacrifice one of the six spots in your party. Instead, you can leave one at the Route 5 day care or two at Four Island's day care. With every step you take outside of the day care, your supervised Pokemon earns experience.

Trading Pokemon

Some Pokemon evolve when you trade them. If you have a trusted friend to make the deal, you can trade with them and have your Pokemon sent back in its evolved form -- such as giving away a Kadabra and getting back an Alakazam. Before you get the National Pokedex, you won't be able to trade with any game other than "FireRed" or "LeafGreen." With the Pokedex, Pokemon from other games are accessible.
