Transformer Birthday Cake Ideas
Transformers are a fun idea for a child's birthday cake. Depending on your skill and interests, there are several elaborate styles of cakes that you can make. You can keep the cakes simple, too.

Simple Cakes

Prepare a standard sheet cake. Frost it in green (add food coloring to white frosting) to resemble a lawn or black with yellow lines to resemble a highway. You can buy Transformer action figures and pose them on the landscape you've created, making sure to pull them off before slicing and serving the cake.
You can also buy a Transformer face mold for characters, including Autobots, from cake-decorating shops. You might find them online, too, and be able to print them out. Buy a tub of fondant from a specialty food store, such as Sur la Table (or buy online), and cut out the Autobot face in fondant. You can place this decal on top of a normal frosted cake for a fun and easy decoration.
Molded Cakes

Wilton's, the baking goods manufacturer, offers a Transformers-shaped cake pan. With this pan, as with any specialty-shaped pan, the difficulty is often in getting the cake out of the pan intact. You can purchase a spray (such as Pam or Vegelene) and heavily coat the pan for insurance, or you can carefully line the pan with foil, leaving an overhang so you can lift the cake out once it's baked. This cake is best decorated in icing which matches the color of the Transformer.

3-D Cakes

You can use a car-shaped cake mold to prepare any of the "pretransformed" Transformers. These can be decorated in bright colors. You can buy Transformers action figures to scatter around the cakestand. The car cake will look like a Transformer waiting to change.
You can also look for a robot cake mold and decorate the robot to look like Optimus Prime. This mold could be reused for fun Halloween cakes, like a Frankenstein or a real robot.
