When to send graduation announcements varies depending upon the purpose of the announcements. Announcements can be used to provide information only or as an invitation to a graduation ceremony.

    Definition

  1. Graduation announcements are exactly what the name implies. They announce a student's graduation from high school or college. An announcement of graduation does not serve as an invitation to a graduation party. Send invitations under separate cover from graduation announcements.
  2. Announcements I

  3. When you simply want to announce a student's graduation, send the announcements after the graduation date. The purpose of this type of announcement is to share the student's accomplishment with friends and family. Sending the announcements after graduation prevents confusion or hurt feelings for those not invited to the ceremony.
  4. Announcements II

  5. Send graduation announcements that are invitations to the ceremony two weeks to one month in advance of the event. Include a formal request to attend the graduation exercises and enclose tickets. You may request an RSVP if desired.
