If your facial skin is prone to dryness, you want to treat it carefully. While you can slather on moisturizers and oils to other dry parts of your body, facial skin can be much more sensitive. If your skin is chronically dry, you may want to make a visit to your dermatologist to see if there is an underlying cause. Otherwise, if you want to save time and money by using a gentle, natural facial moisturizer, try making a homemade face mask for dry skin.

    Ingredients

  1. Egg yolk

One of the best ingredients for dry facial skin is eggs. Eggs are loaded with vitamins A, D and E. According to the Bastyr Center for Natural Health in Seattle, Washington, vitamin A can help repair damage to skin caused by the sun, and it is an ingredient in many over-the-counter skin products, such as Retin-A. Vitamin D often is used in topical moisturizing ointments, along with vitamins A and E, but they appear together naturally in an egg. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent damage done to the skin by outside forces, such as sun exposure or chemicals.

Other ingredients in the dry skin face mask are honey and olive oil. According to the National Honey Board, honey attracts moisture and seals it into the skin while preventing skin irritation. Olive oil moisturizes well, as it has the ability to quickly penetrate the layers of your skin. Natural Skin Care Secrets, a website that specializes in natural remedies for skin care, states that olive oil also improves the elasticity of the skin and is an additional source of vitamin E.

To make the mask, mix together 1 egg yolk and 1 tbsp. of honey. This may require a few minutes of mixing by hand, as honey can take some time to blend with another ingredient. Once the two are blended, add 1 tsp. of olive oil and mix well.

Rinse your face with warm water and pat dry. With clean hands and fingers, apply the mask to your skin. Leave the mask on for 45 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water and gently pat the skin dry. Enjoy the feeling of moisturized skin. While this works as a great moisturizer, don't overdo it. The moisturizing mask should not be applied more than once a week.
