The 3 layers of your skin

Hands show the first signs of aging, yet rarely receive the same care as your face. One means of instant protection is to slather them with sunscreen that blocks out UVA and UVB rays. You should repeat this several times a day to ensure ultimate protection. But what to do about damage already done?

    Paraffin Wax: Tried and True

  1. Slip on gloves to seal in moisture.

Dry hands look older. Whether you indulge in a spa/salon treatment or buy a small unit for your home, a twice-weekly paraffin wax treatment softens by penetrating deep into the epidermis and replenishing moisture in the top layer of skin, thereby making your hands appear and feel years younger. By thickly coating the skin, you get better protection than the thickest of hand creams would provide. If your hands are extremely cracked and dry, try a wax that has shea butter for extra moisture. Results should last 2-3 days, depending on the kind of activities you do.
  2. Fillers: Adding back the fat

  3. Aging depletes hands of volume.
    Aging depletes hands of volume.
The thin and delicate skin on the hands lacks the fat that pads other body parts and therefore craggy-looking hands with protruding veins can make you appear older than you are. Go for a round of wrinkle-fillers. Doctors have found that these injections, once given only for the face, give your hands back that youthful cushion. Once the filler has been given, you'll receive a hand massage to evenly distribute the filler and plump the whole hand. The whole process only takes about half an hour, and you'll see results in 1 to 2 weeks. Results can last up to two years.
  4. Lasers Get Rid of Spots

  5. Fade those spots.
    Fade those spots.
Speckled hands are an age giveway. These speckles are called liver spots, and they darken with age. Repeated sun exposure does not help. Consult a dermatologist who uses lasers to get rid of these spots. You will need 2 or 3 treatments, depending on the darkness and number of spots. Better yet, if you diligently use sunscreen after treatment, the erasure of the spots can be permanent.
