Spaghetti Stain Removal From Carpet

Next to grape juice and red wine, nothing stains a carpet quite like spaghetti sauce. Everyone has their own methods for removing these stubborn and troublesome stains, but experts have a simple way to make it look like nothing ever happened.

    Prepare the Solution---and Work Quickly

  1. Mix a tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent with two cups of cool water. This detergent solution may be the only cleaner you need. Hurry up while doing this, as stains become harder to remove the longer they've been allowed to set.
  2. Sponge and Blot the Stain

  3. Apply the solution to the stain using a clean white cloth. A blotting motion will work best, as a wiping motion may just spread the stain. Once you've applied the solution, blot until the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Backup Plan

  5. If the stain is still there, mix a tablespoon of ammonia with half a cup of cool water and repeat the process you used with the detergent solution.
  6. Cleanup

  7. If you use the ammonia solution, you'll need to sponge it with cold water and blot to remove it.
  8. Advanced and Expert Help

  9. Some stains are just too big and too tough for home remedies to be effective. You may need to purchase a special carpet-cleaning product, use a deep-cleaning machine or hire a professional cleaner with the tools to remove difficult stains or repair damaged carpets.
