Ideas for Decorating a Kids' Clothing Store
Decorating a kids' clothing store can be tricky because you want to appeal to both children and adults. Loud, bright colors may appeal to kids, but they are likely to give adults a headache. However, if you stick to adult decor and colors, children will be bored and the clothes will look out of place. Strike a balance between the two, and you will create a store that draws in both parents and their children.

Colors
-
Stick with neutral colors on the walls and floor. This way, you can accent with colors to match the season. Gray, tan and cream walls, with a hardwood floor, are classic and are easy to dress up. In the fall, place pumpkins on shelves along the wall, and hang garlands of colorful silk maple leaves. Throw an autumn-colored area rug on the floor, and some orange throw pillows on adult and kid-sized chairs. For a cozy look in the winter, string white lights along the shelves, and place a friendly snowman or two throughout the store. To welcome spring, put a red wagon in the corner of the store and fill it with kid-sized gardening tools and some potted plants. In the summer, add brightly colored flower decals to the walls (available at any home and garden center) and hang some paper lanterns from the ceiling.
You can also add rugs, pillows and wall decor to match the colors of the latest fashions.
Furniture and clothing
-
Kid-size furniture is a must in any children's clothing store. Add small chairs by a bookshelf full of used children's books in one corner of the store. Place a train table in an open area of the store, so toddlers can play with the trains while their mothers shop. Display the clothes at adult eye level, however, as the adults will be paying for them. For baby clothes, try draping them whimsically on the rail of an antique cradle, or folded in the open drawers of a baby dresser.

Art
-
Framed pages from popular books make great art for a children's clothing store. Look at thrift stores for old children's books and for frames as well. You can also frame things like antique bonnets to hang in the layette section. A stuffed animal placed here and there adds interest and creates a cute, cozy look, as do small table lamps, old toys, and plants. Wooden alphabet blocks, spelling out the store's name, add a whimsical touch. Frame the blocks or line them up on a shelf behind the front desk.
