Creating arts and crafts after a Bible lesson is a great way to help the children retain what you just taught them. You can do this in a Sunday school class. Make sure you have enough of the necessary supplies for the number of kids you expect to have in your class. The children can then take the crafts home to show their parents. This will give parents a chance to use the craft to find out what the children learned while they were in Sunday school.

    Children Ages 2 to 5

  1. Make a rainbow when teaching the young children about Noah and how God keeps his promises. Give each child a paper plate and some washable markers. Have them cut an arch out of the paper plate (you may have to demonstrate this first). Let the children color the arch with different colors to form a rainbow. On the back write, "God Keeps His Promises".

Create a Jesus necklace when teaching the lesson that Jesus loves the little children. Cut a piece of yarn for each child big enough to be a necklace. Have the children paint ziti noodles with red paint and then slide the yarn through them. Since the children can't write yet, you will need to add the letters J E S U S to the middle noodles with white paint. When the paint dries, tie the necklace around the child's neck and let them wear it home.
  2. Children Ages 6 to 8

  3. Help the children make their own crowns after a lesson about King David or King Solomon. Get a bunch of crowns from Burger King and turn them inside out. Allow the children to color the crowns any color they like. Give them flat-bottom jewels from the craft store and allow them to glue the jewels on the crowns. You can also allow them to place dabs of glue and sprinkle on glitter so the crown will sparkle.

Create a Bible out of soap. This goes great with a lesson about the importance of the Bible. You can even sing the song "The B I B L E" while you are working on it. Give each child a bar of soap; make sure the soap is flat on the top and bottom. Have them cover the soap with a piece of black or red felt. They can glue it in place. Next, have them glue gold trim around three sides to look like the pages of the Bible. Finish the craft by having the children spell out Bible on the top of the black felt using sticky letters.
  4. Children Ages 9 to 12

  5. Learn about becoming a fisher of men and make a fisherman out of an empty soda can. Remove the tab from the soda can and paint the top white. The hole that you drink out of is the mouth so put two google eyes above it for the eyes. Glue brown or black felt to the body of the can for a cloak. Use yarn to make hair and a beard for the fisherman and glue it in place. Finally, attach a fishing pole to the side of the can. The fishing pole can be made out of a toothpick. Tie a piece of string to the top and let it hang down. Glue a goldfish cracker to the end of it.

Use a Styrofoam cup to make the angel that visited Mary to tell her she was having God's son. Turn the cup upside down and then glue a Styrofoam ball to the top of it. Take a piece of silver Christmas garland and glue it in a circle above the head for a halo. Cut out wings from white construction paper and glue them to the back of the cup. Paint a face on the angel, and you are done.
