- Removing dust and debris from a stainless steel surface does not require any special cleaners. A mild detergent dissolved in hot water will do. Dip a cloth into the sudsy water, then wash the affected metal piece. If you are cleaning a non water-resistant watch, do not allow water to touch the watch face. Only use a soft cloth for cleaning stainless steel, as a stiff brush could produce scratches. Rinse the object thoroughly with clean water. If spots remain, apply baking soda to a wet cloth and rub directly onto the stain. Rinse clean. Dry with a towel to remove water droplets that can leave white calcium deposits behind.
- If your little one cannot seem to keep his hands off of the stainless steel refrigerator, keep a bottle of glass cleaner nearby for quick clean-up. Spray the cleaner directly onto the steel, as you would a mirror, and wipe clean. Rinse a cloth with hot water and wipe the area down again. Towel dry the stainless steel to prevent water marks.
- Although it is a durable metal, even stainless steel can develop scratches over time. When this occurs, treat marks with a stainless-steel polish, available at your local hardware store, or with white household vinegar. If the affected piece is stainless steel jewelry, use a polish made specifically for jewelry. After rubbing in the polish or alternative with a dry cloth, use a cloth rinsed in hot water to wipe the piece clean before drying thoroughly.
