An ever popular home decor is the Western-style. When thinking of a Western-style most people picture wagon wheel chandeliers, cow skin rugs and antler lamps, but there is much more to decorating with a western theme. The appeal of a Western-style decor is the naturalistic beauty and the relaxing atmosphere; when combined they create a warm, inviting home. Even if you're on a tight budget you can decorate with a Western theme and turn your home into a relaxing retreat for family and friends.

    Color

  1. When choosing colors think of the colors found in nature. The main colors used in a Western-style decor are tans, honey, brown, black, white and gray. Honey colored walls are the mainstay and light colored wood paneling is common. Two toned walls work well by either separating the colors with a chair railing or using wainscoting on the bottom part of the wall. Black is commonly used in metals such as wall sconces, door handles and lamp bases. Accent colors are terra cotta, brick red, forest green and navy blue.
  2. Furnishings

  3. Typical Western-style furniture includes leather couches and rustic wood tables and chairs. Other popular items include furnishings made out of wagon wheels and antlers. Cow hide printed material is often seen on furniture and rustic plank wood flooring is common. Chandeliers, lamps and tables made out of antlers is a common look.
  4. Accents and Accessories

  5. If new furniture and flooring is not in your budget consider some of these ideas for accessorizing your home. Place Western-style rugs under your coffee table, dining room table and next to a bed. Use slipcovers in accent colors and add pillows with a Native American design. Hang a cow hide printed rug on the wall behind a couch. Replace lampshades with Western-style shades or add rope trim to the top and bottom of your existing lampshades. Place old lanterns on a table. Frame western posters and prints to hang on your walls. Fill an old whiskey jug with flowers to decorate a table or group together cacti in various size containers. Hang an old quilt on a quilt rack. Shop thrift stores to find some of these Western-style items to decorate your home with.
