With summertime comes the fun of grilling food outside. In addition to hamburgers, hotdogs and steaks, a number of other foods can be grilled, such as chicken, pork and even vegetables. The most popular vegetable to grill in the summertime is corn, especially sweet corn. Though there are many different ways to dress the corn up once it's grilled, it's important to cook the corn thoroughly before adding your favorite spices to it.

    Things to consider

  1. Though the process of grilling corn is relatively simple, it's important to remember that you can't just prep it, put it on the grill and forget about it. You have to watch it closely while it's cooking, to ensure that it doesn't burn on one side. There are a couple of different methods for grilling corn. Use whichever one you think is best.
  2. Methods

  3. The method you use will determine how frequently the corn must be turned and how long it must remain on the grill. The first method entails stripping the corn of its husk. Once this has been accomplished, you will need to remove the silk and thorough wash the ear of corn before wrapping it in aluminum foil and putting it on the grill. The second method entails leaving the husk on, but removing the silk and washing the ears thoroughly before wrapping them in aluminum foil and cooking. Corn takes about 30-45 minutes to cook, depending on the size of the ears.
  4. Propane or charcoal?

  5. If you are using a propane grill, get it nice and hot. 350 degrees should do the trick. Once the grill has reached that temperature, you can place the foil wrapped ears on the grate and allow them to cook for about five minutes, before turning them. If you have left the husks on, you can turn the ears less frequently, but don't allow them to sit for more than 10 minutes on any one side before turning them. If you have removed the husks, turn the ears every five minutes. If you are using a charcoal grill, arrange the briquettes in a pile, light them, and allow them to turn gray, then place the grill over them and put the corn on top. Using the propane method as a guide, turn the corn on the charcoal grill with the same frequency.
