- The few materials you'll need can be bought in any hardware store. Start with plywood for the bottom, front, back and side panels. You will also need a saw, a few one-inch nails and wood glue. The size of the plywood depends on the length you want the spice rack to be, which depends on the number of bottles of spice that you wish to store in the rack.
- You can begin by cutting a 1-x-4-inch piece of plywood for the bottom panel to the length you want. Once you have the length for the bottom, cut a piece of 3/8-inch plywood to 5.5 inches in height for the back panel and the same length as the bottom. For the front panel, cut a piece of 3/8-inch plywood to 2.5 inches in height and to the same length as the bottom and back panel. When you are finished, you should have three different sized panels all of the same length. The next thing you need to do is cut two 4-inch pieces of 1/4-inch plywood for the sides of the rack.

Now that you have all of the pieces of plywood cut to the correct measurements, assemble all of the pieces together where they belong. The front and back panels should be attached to the bottom panel with glue and some nails. Do not attach the panels on top of the bottom panel but rather on its side. Next, attach the two small side pieces on both ends with glue and nails to prevent the spice bottles from falling from the sides. When the glue has dried and you have finished assembling all the pieces, you can sand down the spice rack and paint it.
A couple of things to consider when planning for your spice rack is how much space you have for the rack and where you'll be keeping it. If you have a lot of space on your counter, you can make a very long spice rack. If you're planning on hanging your spice rack behind a door, make sure you don't make the spice rack wider than the door. Aside from that, there are many different ways to design a spice rack and choosing the right one depends on your needs.
