Golfing Tips to Eliminate Slice

The slice is one of the most insidious problems in golf. It is an issue that impacts most golfers at one point in their careers. By taking the proper steps as you prepare to hit the ball, you can eliminate the slice from your golf game.

    Take the Proper Stance

  1. Many golfers like to open their left shoulder as they prepare to hit the ball. This is a mistake because opening the stance almost always leads to a poor angle of attack at impact. Make sure your left shoulder is pointing at your target and your left foot is underneath your left shoulder. Bend your knees slightly so you are in an athletic position when you prepare to hit the ball.
  2. Getting a Grip on Your Club

  3. Make sure your grip on the club is firm and secure. While you don't want to choke the club because it will restrict your ability to take a full swing, a grip that is not strong enough will almost always lead to a slice. As you make impact with the ball, the club will slide in your hand and turn to the outside. That will indicate your shot will fly left to right instead of going straight.
  4. Pacing Your Swing

  5. To hit the ball straight and far, you have to allow your hips to be the engine of your swing. This is particularly true if you want to avoid a slice. Your hips have to come through the hitting zone before your hands if you want to make square contact with the ball. If your hands come through too quickly, the club head is likely to be at an angle and the ball will curve from left to right. That's what you want to avoid if you want to eliminate the slice from your game.
