- Long layers work well with an oval shaped face. Especially, when layers are cut at angles that accentuate the cheekbones and chin area. Cut the layers below the cheekbones so they will angle in just above the jaw line to soften any roundness of the face. Texturize the area around the face to eliminate any excessive thickness that may add bulk to the angle. Use texturizing shears and cut a 1/2 inch to an inch from the ends of the hair until you have achieved the desired effect. Texturizing shears can be purchased at a beauty supply store or online. Always cut at least three quarters of the way down the hair shaft, away from the scalp to avoid over-thinning the hair.
- Oval faces can wear bobs that are all one length or angled and layered. For a straight bob, cut the underneath sections of the hair shorter than the top sections to eliminate weight from thick hair and allow it to curve under. To add texture to the bob, soften the bottom with light layering and slight texturizing using a texturizing shear. Add a soft angle to accentuate the neck or chin. Bobs can be worn at ear, chin, mid-neck or shoulder length when working with an oval face. If thick hair is puffy, allow more length to create weight.
- Oval faces can wear any short hair style. If you have thick hair, remove excess bulk by texturizing and adding a leave in conditioner, gel, mousse or texturizing cream when styling to detract from any pouf that may occur. Wear height on the crown and front to give the appearance of facial length if there is any fullness in the cheek area. Pull hair in towards the face to accent the cheekbones. Wear a wispy fringe in the bang to accentuate eyes and hide a high forehead. Oval faces also work well with both middle and side parts. Texturize bangs with texturizing shears to create a wispy effect.
