Hair is a very important part of a woman's overall appearance. The hair can be used to make a statement, enhance the natural beauty or identify personality traits in a woman. Wearing hair weaves is just another way that a woman can express herself with her style. Sewing in hair weaves is a way to get a hot new style and protect the natural hair at the same time. Using the sew-in hair method is healthier and less of a fuss than using messy glues with the bonding technique.

    Supplies

  1. The first thing you need is the right type of hair. You can either use synthetic hair or human hair for the sew-in method. Synthetic isn't able to be styled with a curling iron or flat iron, so most of it comes pre-styled. This is good if you are happy with the style that the hair comes in or have very little patience to style the hair yourself.

Of the human hair type, there are several different textures that you can choose from. Straight textures includes Remi, Yaki and silky. Remi is probably the highest quality hair that you can buy that is still reasonable in price. Other textures includes curly, wavy and kinky.

To sew in hair, you will need to buy hair that is on the weft; single-stranded hair will not work for this method. Also purchase hair thread and a needle while you are at the beauty supply store. Hair thread now comes in different colors to match the weave hair's color for better blending.

Other items you will need are a large-tooth comb, boar-bristled brush and a non-greasy oil-based moisturizer. These items are used for styling and maintaining the weave.
  2. The Sew-in Method

  3. Prepare the natural hair for the inputting of the weave hair. Shampoo and condition it as you normally would. Do a deep conditioner and protein treatment to prepare the hair for months of non-care. Doing proper hair care before sewing in hair weaves is important to maintain the health of the natural hair.

Make sure the hair is completely dried. Braid the hair into cornrows close to the head in a horizontal or circular motion. If braiding horizontally, pin the ends under the braids so that they do not show through the weave hair.

The tracks (wefts) are then sewn into the braids in a circle. Start along the sides and work your way around, all the way to the crown of the head. After the last piece of hair has been sewn in, the hair is now ready to be cut and styled as desired.
