Many people choose to wear weave extensions because of their simplicity and get-up-and-go style. There are so many techniques for applying the weave that in order to choose the technique that's right for you, you must first decide on a style. The second thing to consider is how long you expect the style to stay up. Finally, think about the amount of maintenance you are willing to put into the style to keep it fresh during weeks, even months, of wear.

    Weaving Techniques

  1. Choose your weaving technique based on the type of hair you bought and the style you want. The correct weaving technique depends on whether the weave hair is on a weft or is loose. For weft hair, it can be applied with either hair glue or a needle and thread.
To sew in weft hair, the natural hair must be braided into cornrows first. The hair is either braided going to the back of the head or in a circular motion. The wefts are then separated into manageable pieces and sewn in with hair thread purchased at a beauty supply store.
Sewing is much better for the health of your hair than using glue. Balding could occur if the hair glue isn't removed from the hair properly. When using hair glue, make sure the glued pieces are placed on the scalp and not on the hair. Use enough glue to coat the threaded portion of the weft, but not too much so that removal won't be difficult.
Loose hair weave is usually applied by braiding it in or through a procedure called infusions. Hair infusions are applied by taking small portions of the hair weave and gluing them to the end of the natural hair with a glue gun. Hair infusions are flexible and can last for months. The natural hair can even be washed and relaxed while the infusions are still attached.
  2. Styling

  3. Synthetic hair can't come in contacted with any hot styling tools. This is why most synthetic hair comes already styled and has some type of curl to it. All you have to do it apply it and go.
Human hair takes a little more work, but it is much more durable than synthetic hair. A human-hair weave can be cut and curled in any style you choose. You can also add regular hair products, such as holding spray and oil sheen to finish off the style and make it look more natural.
Styling is also dependent on the texture of the hair. For curly or wavy textures, you can use mousse to hold the curls. For daily maintenance, it is best to use a moisturizer and plait the hair before bed.
The straight textures can be treated like regular hair. Apply some type of moisturizer and heat protectant before using a flat iron or curling iron on the hair. Wrap a silk or satin scarf around your head before going to bed. The only styling tools you will need in the morning are a quick spray of oil sheen and a brush.
