Find the Cheapest Dates to Fly

Try to avoid flying to your destination during peak travel time. You can figure out when peak season is by visiting a tourist site for the city you plan to visit and reading general travel information. When you search for a flight, try putting in several alternate dates to find the cheapest flight days in the week or month you plan to travel.

Use Online Travel Sites to Compare Prices

Use sites such as Travelocity.com and SideStep.com to find the cheapest flights. You can also use Bing.com's "7 Day price prediction" to see if you can save money by waiting to purchase the flight you find or buying it now. Check Southwest.com separately, as many travel comparison sites do not include this in their comparison. When you purchase your flight, do it directly through the airline itself to avoid booking fees.

Look into Flight Packages

Check out hotel/flight packages to save money on your trip overall. Look on the travel sites previously mentioned, as well as tourist sites for your destination. You also may find package deals on the Web site of the hotel where you are staying. Compare the total price of the package with the price of the flight and the price of the hotel where you plan to stay to see which is cheaper.
