Clearing Severe Acne

Severe acne, which affects millions of Americans, is characterized by the appearance of embarrassing whiteheads, blackheads, pustules and cysts. When you are struggling with severe acne, it can be difficult to know how to treat acne. Fortunately, severe acne can be effectively treated using a simple and powerful strategy.

    Cleansing

  1. Basis Cleansing Bar

Cleansing is an important step in keeping the skin clear. Use a gentle cleanser and avoid rubbing or scrubbing the skin. Purchase a cleanser that is formulated for sensitive skin types, and do not scrub the skin while washing. Scrubbing can irritate the skin, which can make acne worse and can lead to more breakouts. Simply lather and rinse.
  2. Medicate

  3. 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cream

    2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cream
Medicate the skin with a benzoyl peroxide cream that has a concentration of 2.5 percent. According to acne.org, this strength is the best at treating acne quickly and effectively. Using an amount equal to the size of a quarter, gently apply it to the skin, being careful to avoid the delicate eye area. Allow the benzoyl peroxide cream to dry completely.
  4. Moisturize

  5. Oil of Olay Oil-Free Lotion

    Oil of Olay Oil-Free Lotion
Moisturize the skin with an oil-free lotion after using the benzoyl peroxide cream, such as Oil of Olay Oil-Free lotion (see Resources). Benzoyl peroxide can be drying if used by itself, so moisturizing the skin with a lotion that does not clog pores will ensure that the skin does not dry out unnecessarily. Use an amount around the size of a nickel, and apply it to the skin gently.
