Cats are a favorite animal. They are furry, playful and a common house pet. Many children love cats and any novelty cat item. Even grownups adore cats. One of the best party items for a cat lover is a cat birthday cake.

    Cat Cake

  1. It is fairly easy to make a cat cake. Start by baking two 9x2-inch round cakes. Once they are cool and removed from the pans, then it is time to assemble the cat. Place one round cake on a foil-lined board. This is the cat body. Cut the center out of the other circle. The cut needs to be 1 or 2 inches from the edge. Place the center piece above the body piece. Make sure they are touching at the neck. Take the rim piece that was cut out and cut triangle ears. Next, cut out a tail. If you have any leftover pieces, cut out cat feet. Assemble the cat and frost it all in one color. Next, take a pastry bag and fill in the details with different-colored frosting. Do not forget the nose, whiskers and eyes.
  2. Cat Cupcake Cake

  3. Bake at least one dozen cupcakes. The amount depends on how large of a cake you want to create. Once they are cool, make a large circle with all but two of them. Place these two at the top of the circle for ears. Frost your cat head as if it were one cake and not a batch of little cakes. Use frosting to fill in any gaps between cupcakes. Take a pastry bag and frost on the details. Once done, this cake does not need to be cut to be served. Just pull the cupcakes loose and pass them around.
  4. Cat Sugar Crafts

  5. You can make cats out of sugar to use as toppers on your cake. Dissolve 2 tbsp. of powdered gelatin in 2 oz. of hot water. Add ½ cup light corn syrup. Add 2 lbs. of powdered sugar to the wet mixture and mix thoroughly until a dough-like ball is formed. Keep the mixture warm in order to keep it pliable. In order to add color to the mixture, add 3 or 4 drops of the desired food coloring to the water before adding anything else. If your sugar paste is too dry, knead in a few drops of water. Take small pinches of sugar paste and create little cat statues. You can design playing cats, sleeping cats or just plain cute cats. Let the little statues dry until hard, then paint on the details using a little food coloring and a paint brush. Once the cake is baked, cooled and frosted, decorate it using the little cat creations. Just place a small dab of frosting on the bottom of the statues and glue them to the cake top.
