- Collect antique and second-hand instruments to decorate your wall. You can collect the most instruments in this manner. Look for wind instruments like flutes, French horns and saxophones as these are beautiful as they age and acquire a patina. Guitars are useful also and are quite easy to display.
- While it is nice to fill a wall with used instruments, a valuable signed collector's item or two will upgrade the value of your entire wall. Visit an auction or two and keep your eyes open for musician-signed guitars and other instruments.
- Hang your instruments on the wall in a manner that will allow them to be taken down, admired and easily returned to the wall. A guitar wall mount can cost less than $20, and other wall mounts are also quite inexpensive (see Resources).
- Purchasing a wall full of instruments can be cost prohibitive. For this reason, it is a good idea to start with one or two major musical art pieces and build your collection around it. You can purchase framed artwork that features instruments and players, or you can use metal wall art hangings in the shape of musical instruments as your main statement piece in the room. From there, you can build the rest of your collection.
- Top off the wall with vinyl lettering and musical notes. You can place a phrase above, or in the middle of your wall arrangement.
