How Can Kids Make a Lemonade Stand?

Lemonade stands have long been used by children to make a bit of money and pass the time on those warm summer days. The lemonade stand is attractive because children can create and run their stand mostly on their own, with just a little bit of help from adults or older children. The process is one that children enjoy not only because it is fun, but because it is a fulfilling experience.

    The Stand Surface

  1. Making a lemonade stand doesn't need to be hard. There doesn't need to be a special surface that is made for a lemonade stand. Instead, children can use a card table or even a craft table that they have in their own bedroom or game room. In fact, children often like being able to transform what was once a typical table into the ultimate lemonade stand with a poster and balloons.

Streamers, balloons and even metallic fringe can be purchased at your local party store to transform a typical table into a festive lemonade stand. Yellow is a great choice for your lemonade stand because it will get the point across to your customers.
  2. Creating a Poster to Attract Customers

  3. A poster is an important part of a lemonade stand. The poster needs to be large enough for those who are passing by to read it. Lemonade should be the most prominent word on the sign, and it can be painted on, drawn on with a crayon or marker, or even written with wooden or Styrofoam letters that have been painted and glued onto the poster.
  4. Pricing Your Product

  5. Children often need help pricing their item, especially if they still are not all that familiar with money. Generally children have an easier time if the price is something that is easily added if they sell more than one cup. It's important to teach children that they are spending money to run their stand; the cost of the lemonade mixture as well as the poster costs money, and they need to cover their expenses through their sales. Twenty-five to 50 cents a cup is generally a great starting point for a simple lemonade stand.
