Envision
-
When you look at a room in your house that needs organizing, what is it that you envision as the end result? Is it a streamlined look with very little in sight except for pieces of furniture and a few spare accessories? Is it a neat row of labeled bins that quickly and easily identify where you can find the items you need? Or is it a variety of baskets placed in specific locations, designed to hold your most frequently used items, making them available to grab at a moment's notice?
When you determine what you envision, you'll start to envision a plan.
Plan
-
In order to become organized, you will need some organizational tools. Whether it's baskets, bins, storage boxes or additional pieces of furniture for the bedroom, or file folders, a file cabinet and a few open storage cubes for your office, it's vital to know what will best help you in getting and staying organized. Be organized in this step, too. Make a detailed list of which items you need to buy. Maybe you even have them sitting unused in another room in your home. Either way, procure the needed items. Now you may begin the organization process.

Execute
-
When starting to execute your plan for getting and staying organized, you must frequently resort to that first step of envisioning the end result. That picture in your mind should start to become clearer as it gets closer to becoming a reality.
Sort the clothing into appropriate bins, baskets or boxes. File those papers accordingly, and start to see progress on your office desk. Put away or give away seldom used items, and throw away those items that truly are trash.
After finishing one room, continue on to the next step in getting and staying organized. Before you know it, your entire home will look better. You'll feel better, and you'll come to enjoy and appreciate the steps taken toward getting organized. And even better, throughout this process you'll have likely developed the will to stay that way.
