School children and teachers alike look forward to spring break. As a teacher, you can create spring break bulletin boards for your classroom or a hallway. Some of the following ideas will work better before students leave on break, others are more appropriate for when they return. Whatever you decide to do, remember that spring is a time of celebration and new life. Use bright colors and your creativity for a spectacular bulletin board.

    Before Students Leave

  1. One of the easiest and most exciting bulletin board ideas is a countdown to spring break. The only hard part is remembering to change your count each day. Ask a student to help you to remember. Try different themes and pictures based on the age group and your students' interests. For example, an easy countdown bulletin board for elementary grades is an outer space theme. Use a rocket ship and put your students' photos in astronaut helmets. Your caption could be: "How Many Days Until We Blast Off to Spring Break?" For high school students, try a tropical theme with palm trees and sand, because many of them will be traveling. to beaches on spring break.
  2. When Students Return

  3. When your students return to school it's time to refocus. Your bulletin board caption could be something like: "We've had some fun, now we're back and ready to learn!" For elementary students, try taking two photos of each student's face and put one photo on each side of the bulletin board. On the "fun" side, you can display the students' photos with airplanes, baseballs and beach balls. On the "learning" side, use your students' photos with pencils, notebooks and desks. Another idea is to make a large construction paper plane and put photos of your students inside the plane. The plane can be flying toward the school to indicate that students are returning to school after spring break.
  4. Student-Made Bulletin Boards

  5. Student-made bulletin boards are also popular. Before students leave for spring break, ask them to write a short paragraph about their plans. Cut out the paragraphs, mount them on bright construction paper and pin them to the bulletin board. Or pin them to a U.S. or world map to show where your students are headed. When the students return from spring break, have them write another paragraph about their trip and put it next to the first one.
