Bass fishing does not require a large boat with a fish finder, inboard motor, depth finder or live wells. Small crafts, maneuvered correctly, can locate just as many fish as their larger, more expensive counterparts. In fact, small bass boats are often capable of nestling into spots big boats are too large to reach. There are several small boats on the market made with efficiency, budget and functionality in mind.

    Inflatable Boats

Bass fishing usually consists of low-key outings where power and speed are simply not needed from a boat. Inflatable boats are often all a fisher needs to hunt for bass. The key to using inflatables is finding one durable enough to hold at least two people, has a strong bottom and the ability to mount a trolling motor on the stern. These crafts are susceptible to tearing and should be used with caution around fallen debris. They are good crafts for getting to tight spots and are usually priced in the $300 range.
  2. Small Bass Rigs

Some companies manufacture small plastic and Fiberglass crafts especially for bass fishing. They are complete with high, swivel chairs and are durable enough to navigate choppy water and move quietly. These crafts are good for navigating weeds and are easily rigged with trolling motors. Some models such as the Pelican Bass Raider are very affordable starting at about $400.
  4. Space Restraints

  5. Most small bass crafts are made for one or two anglers and a minimal amount of gear, according to Coast Guard standards. A good small boat will offer enough room for a tackle box, a small cooler, boat battery and life jackets. Light equipment is recommended as specified weight limits are usually slightly inflated. With minimal gear, small crafts are more than suitable for exciting bass fishing.
