Aquarium screen saverMost office cubicle workers have a laptop or desktop computer in their midst and the computer screen is a great opportunity to create a pleasant atmosphere or theme for your cubicle decor. Although downloading online screen-savers may be against company policy, upload a few personal photos and put your screensaver on slideshow mode to give you a boost of happiness every time your computer is at rest. If your company is a bit more lenient with downloads, try downloading the Webshots.com toolbar and use beautiful user-uploaded photographs to decorate your desktop and transport you to a different place or time.
Your computer monitor is also an opportunity for a little fun. Monitor frames are lightweight colorful screen decorations that fit around your computer screen much like a frame would fit on a picture. Purchase a theater motif, floral theme or an artistic frame to make your cubicle space more unique. (See Resources section.) -
Lava lamp and metallic task lighting for hi tech styled cubicleHarsh florescent lighting common to most office spaces is not only overly bright, but often hard on the eyes as well. Alter your lighting and the ambiance in your cubicle by providing yourself with a little indirect lighting as well. Choose a small table lamp that will fit on your desk and say a little about your personality as well, such as a wrought iron lamp with a fun red beaded shade or a lamp with an animal theme or shape. A lamp will not only warm up the lighting in your cube, but it won't take up valuable desk space. -
desk plantVital for a Feng Shui-styled cubicle, plants and a water element help to make your cubicle more homey and comfortable. Purchase small violet or ivy plants to sit around your table lamp or on a windowsill. Plants add a lot of warmth to your environment and help to keep your air recycled as well. For a water feature purchase a beta or Siamese fighting fish. Siamese fighting fish are small and easy to care for, commonly seen in small one cup water containers. Change the water weekly and keep under the table lamp to make sure the water stays at room temperature. No filter or heater is necessary, but be sure to place a cover over the bowl as Betas tend to jump! -
area rugWhether your cubicle has tile floor or carpeting, a small area rug with a design or splash of color can do a lot to make your office space more home-like, and keep your feet warm as well. Select a small area rug with a design you like be it a floral design, geometric pattern or a traditional oriental rug style. -
Mouse rugSmall accessories that reflect your personality are the final touches to personalizing and decorating your space. Without cluttering your space, express your interest with specialized book ends, mouse pads, pen holders and photographs and frames. For example, If you enjoy an Asian look use Buddha statues to serve as bookends and red accents in your mousepad and even file folders. If you have a teapot collection use one as an accent on a bookshelf and use one near your computer to hold pens or paper clips.
