- The playing field that soccer baseball is played on is similar to a baseball field. There are four bases and a pitcher's mound. The distance between the bases and pitcher's mound can be adjusted based on the ages of the players and how many players are on a team. It is optional to include a marker in the outfield area to indicate where the playing field ends. If a ball is kicked over this marker in the air, it counts as a home run, just like in baseball.
- According to the Toronto Public Health Organization's website, the rules for soccer baseball are slightly different than baseball for pitching and fielding. The pitcher rolls the ball to the batter, and the ball is kicked instead of hit with a baseball bat. If the ball is caught while it is in the air, the batter is out, just like in baseball. If the ball is fielded on the ground though, the ball may be thrown or kicked to the base that the player is running to instead of just throwing it as in baseball. A fielder must touch the base while holding the ball to get the runner out if there is a runner at the base behind the one the runner is heading toward. If there is nobody on that other base, the player must be tagged by the player holding the ball. Throwing the ball at a player is not permitted to get an out in soccer baseball.
- Scoring runs in soccer baseball is just like in baseball or softball. When a runner crosses home plate, his team scores a run. Each team gets three outs and then the fielding and batting teams switch roles. A game can be played for any number of innings that the players agree upon before the start of the game. If there is a tie at the end of the last inning, each team gets an additional turn being the team at bat until one team has a lead and both teams have had an equal number of turns at bat.
