Different types of herbs promote different functions and can aid the purification process for which a fast in intended. In most cases, herbal cleansing tea is safe. However, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional, especially if pregnant, lactating or allergic to any medicinal herbs.

    Herbal teas can assist the cleansing process of a fast. Prescription for Nutritional Healing (PNH) recommends chamomile, dandelion and rose hip to aid a cleansing fast. Echinacea and slippery elm teas also provide valuable cleansing support.

    According to PNH, chamomile, dandelion and rose hip rejuvenate the liver and cleanse the bloodstream. Also, you can blend echinacea and cranberry juice for a tea to rebuild the boost immune system and bladder functions, and to flush bacteria from the colon. Slippery elm tea acts as an anti-inflammatory for the colon and can be used as an enema as well. Be sure not to use chamomile if you are allergic to ragweed.

    It is recommended to prepare herbal cleansing teas with distilled water for the best purification results. Steep 1 tbsp. dried herbs in 8 oz. rapidly boiling distilled water. Cover and allow to infuse for five to eight minutes. According to PNH, drink any herbal cleansing tea once or twice a day. Limit chamomile tea to once a day.
