      • If your Fast Access DSL service is not working correctly, make sure the modem and cables are properly connected. You should have a standard telephone line connected from the wall jack to the back of the modem. An Ethernet cable should also be connected from the modem to the Ethernet port on the back of the computer. If the modem is working correctly there should be indicator lights on the front that should should turn on when there is a connection to the Internet.

      Filters

      • You should have DSL filters connected to each line in the house that is connected to a telephone. The DSL signal and telephone signal are sent on the same copper wire and need to be separated to work correctly. When you received the installation kit there should have been at least four filters and a replacement wall jack included. You do not necessarily need to have a filter on the line that connects to the modem. If you do, make sure the telephone line is plugged into the correct output on the filter.

      Software

      • Your installation kit that for the FastAccess DSL service should have included an installation CD for the modem. The Windows operating system should recognize when a DSL modem is connected. You may need to use the installation CD because it contains software and drivers that may be needed by the system. If your system is not locating an Internet connection, try using the installation CD to see if there is software that will correct the problem.

      Firewall

      • If your modem is connected and working properly but a connection to the Internet cannot be made, make sure your firewall is not blocking the connection. Most types of firewalls are software-based, which means that it will block software connections that are being made to the Internet. If you have a hardware firewall, it may need to be configured to allow access for the modem to connect to the Internet.
