Mealtime can be very stressful with a toddler. Toddlers tend to be very picky and will tend to not eat very much, especially at night. There are many good choices for your toddler at mealtime. Finger foods work best, because they allow the children to be independent and feed themselves. Try to choose healthy items and plan a menu you can offer toddlers. If you have baked chicken, set aside some of the chicken and make chicken tenders. If you are preparing meat with a lot of spice, leave aside a portion without the spice for your child.

Most children will eat chicken and fries. You can purchase chicken tenders in the meat department or ask for them specifically at your grocer. Roll your strips in bread crumbs or crushed cereal and bake in an oven at 400 degrees F for about 20 minutes. Serve the tenders with ketchup or other sauce. The tenders can also be cut into bite-sized pieces. Oven-baked fries can be cooked with the chicken. Wash and peel white potatoes, roll them lightly in olive oil and bake them for 20 minutes with the chicken. You can add Parmesan cheese for a little more flavor.

Mac and cheese is great for toddlers because it is healthy for them and easy to chew. For mac and cheese, try using whole wheat pasta, prepared according to the package directions. In a small saucepan, mix 1 1/4 cup of milk with 2 tbsp. of flour and 1/4 tsp. of salt. Bring to a low boil and stir in 4 oz. of cheddar and 2 tbsp. of grated Parmesan. Add the pasta and serve.

Spaghetti is a favorite meal for toddlers. Most toddlers will eat the spaghetti with their fingers. It makes a mess but it is an easy dish to prepare. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions. Bottled sauces are good choices to add. You can brown meat and drain it to add to the sauce. Mix the spaghetti and sauce together and serve with fresh salad and toasted bread.
