Gather your painting materials together. Prepare your paintbrush, paint rollers, painter's tape, paint trays and sponges. Avoid cutting corners to save time. When painting dark pink on the walls, it is important to apply your paint primer first. Doing so will save time and money by avoiding applying numerous coats of paints later on. With primer, you only need two coats of paint. Without a primer, you may need more than two coats, sometimes up to five to seven coats of paint.
When painting high-traffic areas or areas where the walls will be prone to dirt and grime, such as bathrooms or playrooms, make sure to use semigloss paint. You can use flat paint in bedrooms.
Try faux-painting techniques to give your dark pink room more texture and depth. For example, use a ragging, sponging or stippling technique on the wall that you will use as a focal point. A faux finish on only one wall prevents it from becoming overbearing, especially in a big room. If the room is small, such as a bathroom or powder room, you can apply the faux-painting technique on all the walls.
Add stripes or metallic accents to give your dark pink room pizazz. Accent a dark pink color with black to make it more sophisticated. Use black to paint the wood trims, baseboards and crown moldings. -
Try the "old Hollywood glam-look" as your style. Think of Rita Hayworth in her dark pink gown and black fur coat. In this style, use a black velvet sofa and then add pink decorative pillows. Hang black or pink curtains on brushed nickel rods with crystal finials. Add table lamps with crystal or acrylic lamp bases. Use black and white striped lampshades. Adorn the lampshades with pink feathers glued around the lower border of the shades. Use mirrors framed in silver metallic finish to add sparkle.
Another theme is the "Parisian style." Accentuate the dark pink walls with fleur-de-lis stencils as borders. Choose harlequin patterned upholstery for your sofa and chairs. Paint the tables and chairs in gold metallic finishes. Use a lighter pink velvet throw draped on one side of the couch to soften the look. Add matching harlequin patterned window treatments. Use a white furry area rug under a glass coffee table. If you are decorating a bedroom, use this pattern on the bedding and lampshades. -
Use accessories that sparkle. For example, use silver or gold finishes for framing photos, mirrors and art. Choose black and white photos framed in black if you are using the black and dark pink wall color combination.
Use crystal or glass vases for your fresh flowers. Choose glass or mirrored decorative items, such as obelisks and a miniature model of the Eiffel tower, and then group them together on top of a console or coffee table. Add lots of decorative pillows in pink, black or gray.
