- Game room floors should be stain- and accident-resistant. Spills of beverages or food can stain or tarnish your game room floor. Consider a carpet with DuPont Stainmaster coating or substitute an inexpensive tile floor for ease of cleaning.
- Install hands-on games. Foosball, dart boards, billiards and air hockey are classic additions to any game room and offer a chance for fierce competition among family and friends without breaking the bank. Be sure to measure the amount of room recommended for your game and position it so as to offer players a comfortable experience without worrying about hitting walls or windows.
- Stock board games and accessories. A simple start to a budget game room would be to place comfortable chairs, a table and either a bookshelf or cabinet stocked with the family's board games. Not only do these games not require a lot of room, they are relatively inexpensive allowing the family to expand their game room without going broke.
- Move the video games into the attic. With comfortable chairs, such as bean bags or "gaming" rocker chairs, a television and a video game console, your game room could rival any arcade. Video games can be rented for a weekend of fun, and libraries of games are easily stored and displayed on standard bookshelves.
