Sony XBR9

Sony HDTVs are jam-packed with picture enhancement and entertainment features to further expand the home theater experience. Sony's televisions are like computers, complete with processors and circuitry. With so much technology and features crammed into one television, it is necessary to know when to repair or replace your Sony television if something does go wrong.

Average Cost of a Sony Television

Every spring, Sony releases the new lineup of HDTVs. Sony HDTVs range in picture quality, size, features and by series.

The S5100 is Sony's entry-level model with sizes ranging from 40" to 52". Their 40" S5100 retails for around $900. The S series model has minimal features and is perfect for budget buyers.

The Sony XBR9 is Sony's top-of-the-line television with sizes ranging from 32" to 52". The XBR9 in a 40" set retails for about $2300 and is loaded with features.

When deciding either to replace of repair a television, the cost of your particular television plays a role.

Average Repair Costs

A television repair man will usually charge a trip fee to come out to your house. Often the charge to bring the television in is the same. The actual average of TV repair costs is anywhere from $600 to $1000 for most HDTVs.

Is the Repair Process Worth It?

Unfortunately it is not very cost effective to have your television repaired. A $700 repair on a $900 television is simply not worth the price. If by chance the repairman does his job correctly and the television is still not functioning, you will have to pay the repairman and purchase a new television. You should only have your TV repaired if the cost of the repair is much less than the purchase price of a new set or if you bought a protection agreement for it.

Protection Agreements

To ensure the longevity on your purchase of a Sony TV, be sure to pick up a protection agreement. This will save you money if your television needs to be repaired or serviced.
