One of the most important cakes in a child's (and parent's) life is his 1st birthday cake. Parents pick a theme for the party and then find an appropriate cake. Butterfly, castle, circus and ballerina cakes are good cakes for 1st birthdays. Usually there's a smaller cake made for the baby using the same theme. The older child has more involvement in picking the next cakes. Knowing your child's favorite cartoons or toys will help give you ideas for his cake. Fairies and princesses are always a hit with little girls. Trucks or dinosaurs are great for boys.
