Choosing a gift off a wedding registry is easy, but selecting a gift that's special to a bride and groom takes a little extra effort. You want to find something that captures the personalities and interests of the couple. Since you may end up spending extra, start setting aside money early.

From Quick Guide: Registry Basics

    Match Interests

  1. Select a special vintage bottle of wine for wine lovers or book cooking classes for food gurus. Make sure the bride and groom will enjoy the gift together. Think about some of the couple's interests such as music or the theater. Purchase tickets to an event during their honeymoon, but let the couple know in advance so they can work it into their plans.
  2. Surprise the Couple

  3. Commemorate your friends wedding day by having a flag flown over the capitol in their honor. This can be done at the state or national level. Consider making a donation to the couple's favorite charity or college. Surprise the couple with something they wouldn't get themselves such as a day at the spa or a night at a bed and breakfast.
  4. Shop the Registry

  5. Pool resources with some of your friends to buy one of the big-ticket items on the bridal registry. Couples may register for a few expensive items with the slim hope someone will splurge. Find out which gift the bride and groom have really set their hearts on.
  6. Add Engraving or Monogramming

  7. Consider engraving or personalizing a registry item such as a platter or picture frame. Add the couple's name or wedding date. Purchase bathroom towels with the couples initials monogrammed. Just remember engraved gifts generally cannot be returned.
