- The basis for most mask decorating is paint. If paint is all you have, you will still be able to create an amazing product. Think about what you are trying to achieve: a beautiful face, a blank stare, a terrifying expression or something to coordinate with a costume, perhaps. Sketch the idea on paper. Once you have a clear picture of what you want to do, use pencil and outline your design. Then, paint the mask. You can always paint over mistakes. Use a small brush to draw on details like eyelashes and tattoos.
- A classic look, adding feathers can add flair to your mask. Craft feathers typically come in many colors.
- Using glitter can make a mask flashier. Simply use a glue stick on the portions that you want glittery and shake the glitter over those areas. Put down some newspaper first to avoid a mess.
- There are plenty of other materials that can be used for mask decorating. At craft stores, you can buy doll hair that can be draped above and around the face. Ribbons and fabric are other great materials. You can look outdoors for sticks, leaves and dried grass to achieve an earthier look. Have fun and be creative.
