Create one-of-a-kind greeting cards with rubber stamps. Whether you collect rubber stamps or use those at a rubber stamp store for a fee, choose a theme when picking out stamps both large and small. Make a collage of stamped images in different ink colors on papers or mat board pieces, then glue them onto a blank card with a contrasting paper background.

    Materials

  1. Stamped greeting cards

Choose a theme for your greeting card project, such as travel, sports, birthday or gardening. Gather rubber stamps that fit the theme. For example, travel stamps can include ships, airplanes, letters, suitcases and points of interest such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Birthday party themed stamps are balloons, presents and birthday cake. Stamps can be purchased in craft shops such as Michael's or AC Moore, or on the Internet at sites such as Stampington & Co (www.stampington.com). In addition to stamps with images, rubber stamps can also include words and phrases such as "Happy Birthday" or "Bon Voyage".

Stamp assorted papers with your collection of themed rubber stamps, both words and images. Experiment with different stamps and different ink colors. Cut them out and arrange them on the front of a plain greeting card (card-stock sheet cut to 10 inches by 7 inches on a paper cutter and folded in half). This will create a three-dimensional effect, which adds interest to the card.
  4. A Few Tips

  5. Make a supply of stamped images and words for future use. Cut them out and keep them in a craft box, ready for the next project. Windex and paper towels are inexpensive cleaning supplies to remove ink from rubber stamps. Since many stamps have fine details, keep an old toothbrush handy to remove ink in hard-to-clean spots. To add ink to rubber stamps, lay the stamp on a work table, rubber side up, then apply ink with an upside down ink pad. Get together with other crafters to share rubber stamps and ideas.
