- Cut cat shapes from polymer clay for whimsical ornaments you can hang on the Christmas tree or in the window. You can use cat shaped cookie cutters or trace a cat design onto a flat section of clay to create this easy to make craft project. Polymer clay becomes soft and pliable when you knead it with your hands, then you can use a pasta machine to roll it into an even thickness. Arrange your clay cats onto a baking sheet and pierce holes in the top with a knitting needle so you can hang them. Baking hardens the clay throughout so you can paint or decorate the cat ornament any way you like. Finish the ornament with layers of Future floor polish for shine and protection.
- Trace and cut out cat shapes from copper sheeting that can be found at your local craft store. You can cut the copper with tin snips or very sharp household scissors, but be careful as the cut edges can be sharp. Make a hole in the top with a tin punch or a hammer and nail so you can hang your finished cat ornament. Glue narrow oval flat backed rhinestones for your cat's eyes and a triangle shaped rhinestone for its mouth. Cut strips of fishing line to make the whiskers and craft the cat's tail from beaded wire. Decorate the copper cat with a beaded necklace or necktie and hang it in a window or on a mobile.
- Make an outline of a cat with 20-gauge craft wire and string beads to decorate it as an ornament. It's easy to create shapes with wire if you make a template with a block of wood and some finishing nails. Draw the outline onto the wood block and hammer in the nails every ¼-inch or so around the perimeter. Wind the wire around the nails to create the cat shape, and then slide the wire up to remove it from the template. You can add the beads and then twist the wire together to create the cat's tail. These cat ornaments are great for decorating gift wrapped packages, hanging on a holiday tree or adding to a wind chime.
