Horse Theme Bedroom Ideas
For the outdoor person who loves horses or the parent with a horse-crazy child, a horse motif may strike exactly the right note for bedroom decor. Fortunately, there are endless ways to infuse the stable into your bedroom without bringing the horse inside, and many places sell horse-related items.

Rather than ponies romping on the wallpaper, some grown-up ideas for a horse-themed bedroom include Southwestern or foxhunting motifs with appropriate accents. Colors lean toward dark green, brown, barn red, and similar earth tones that evoke forests, pastures, and stables. Hunting prints, Western art a la Charles Russell, or artists who specialize in horses, like Persis Clayton Weirs, can provide a unified theme to wall decor. Plaques, horse-themed road and barn signs, and other touches can put an individual stamp on the finished room. Use wall hooks made from joined horseshoes to hang up your robe or mount shelves.
In addition, some people like to bring actual tack into the room. An antique saddle on a stand in the corner, a couple of horseshoes for luck, or a mirror set into an old horse collar all provide the horsey touch without overpowering the room.

Wallpaper or borders with horses running, jumping, bucking, and flying in Western or English patterns will delight nearly any child. Many craft stores sell fabric with horse motifs that you can use to make bedspreads and pillows. A throw rug with a horse's head or that shows the child's favorite breed of horse is usually easy to obtain. Check the various breed associations for knickknacks and room decor items. A special shelf for Breyer horses can keep the room neat, and a painted trunk with a horse on the lid can serve both as a pretend mount and a place for toys. There are many craft patterns for rocking horses in every material, from felt to wood. Place a wooden rocking horse in the corner or a fabric one on the wall, or stencil a horse's head looking over a stable door to invoke a barn theme. If stencils are your thing, there are many horse- and stable-themed stencils for wall borders and accents. Try putting a frieze of running horses on the child's headboard or around the door.

Check out tack stores or catalogs for horse-themed bric-a-brac. Leather or fabric pillows, wall hangings, sheets, rugs, statues and figurines, paintings, prints, posters, and jewelry are all widely available for nearly any breed or style of riding imaginable. Horse themes run from rodeo to foxhunting, trail riding to dressage. An "English" look might involve a hunting print or two, dark green bedclothes or walls, a hunting whip mounted beside a curled brass hunting horn on the wall, and a top hat with a lady's scarf trailing artfully from a shelf. A "Western" theme might use browns and greens, a black metal silhouette-type coat rack with a rodeo or trail-riding theme mounted on the wall, and some Old West art prints. Or, you may avoid choosing a riding style altogether and stick to horses in general, with a bust of a rearing horse jutting from the wall, horses running through the wallpaper border, and one magnificent horse-themed rug on the floor to catch the eye and establish the mood. The possibilities in a horse-themed bedroom are really endless.
