The game of volleyball was first invented in Massachusetts in 1895. This simple game only requires a court, ball, a net and two to six players on each team. Indoor volleyball became an Olympic sport at the 1964 summer games in Tokyo. It took some years but after an exhibition in the 1992 summer games, beach volleyball joined its indoor counterpart as an official Olympic sport in 1996.
