Nothing says winter like hand-crocheted hats and scarves. Crochet, dating back two or three centuries, is a process of creating fabric from thread or yarn with a hook-like needle. By looping yarn through other loops, a soft woven material is formed that is perfect for cold weather comfort. Crocheted items make unique, heart-felt gifts for friends and family. In this free video series, a knitting teacher demonstrates a number of basic crocheting techniques and patterns. After becoming familiar with crochet patterns, hooks and foundation chains, tips are provided on using a variety of stitches to bring crochet ideas to fruition. Some of the stitches include the half double stitch, the triple stitch and the reverse single stitch.
