Pro Tools Beat Detective Tips
Beat detective is a feature in Pro Tools that allows the user to edit and lock rhythms and beats recorded into the program perfectly to a grid or tempo. Use this feature easily and effectively in the next session with tips and advice from an experienced music producer and engineer in these free videos.
When recording any rhythmic instrument sometimes human error is just too large to sound good. A raw, human sound is one thing, but being completely off tempo is another. Today there is a simple and immediate way to fix this problem, and it is called Beat Detective. Beat Detective is a feature in Pro Tools that allows the user to edit and lock rhythms and beats recorded into the program perfectly to a grid or tempo. With the simple click of a mouse an off tempo beat becomes perfectly on tempo with no sign of it being altered - such as clicks or pops from several cuts and edits in the wave file. This feature is available in all versions of the Pro Tools program in the single-track form, but in the HD version of Pro Tools the user is able to Beat Detective multiple tracks at one time so locking in the drums is a one-step process instead of one track at a time.
The Beat Detective feature is wonderful and relatively easy to use once the user has gone through the process a few times. This experienced producer/ engineer, RT Ouk, walks through every button and feature of how to use the Beat Detective Pro Tools effect. Quantizing a snare, a kick, a high hat and room mics are some of the things this producer goes over, along with the region separation, region conform and edit smoothing features that lock the performance in perfectly with the Pro Tools grid. Perfect drumming has never been as easy as a click of a mouse, until now!
