Pilates is an exercise system developed by a German man named Joseph Pilates. It was designed to strengthen the body core (which consists of the abdominal muscles, the lower back muscles, hip flexors, and gluteus muscles) in order to prevent back pain, and help with spine alignment and breathing control. Pilates exercises can be done almost anywhere and can be learned quite easily. In this free video series a professional Pilates instructor, Jeri Ryan, will show you how to perform several exercises using a theraband. Jeri will begin by introducing you to therabands by explaining how they can help add resistance to your exercises. You'll then learn several ways to use therabands in order to stretch out the various muscles and joints in your body. She'll teach you how to use a theraband to stretch your shoulders, arms, triceps and even your rotator cuff. She'll also teach you how to apply the theraband to specific exercises, such as: the hundred position, rowing front, box out of the closet and serve the tray. Performing these stretches along with using the theraband will help increase the intensity of your workout. Watch these videos and learn to exercise your body using resistance today.
