Woodturning is the art of creating items out of wood using a lathe. One method used to make objects is scraping. They are also used to smooth off wooden items cut with other tools. A sharp scraper has a burr at the edge which cuts the wood, only a dull scraper actually scrapes. Lou Zabohonski Lou Zabohonski Jr. was introduced to woodturning 25 years ago when he took an introductory class for a 5-in-1 machine his wife encouraged him to buy. For the next 20 years, he experimented on his own, doing all types of turning. Six years ago he decided to take his skills to the next level, and started taking some formal classes. One particular weekend with master woodturner David Ellsworth took him beyond his comfort zone, and allowed him to create bowls with natural edges and thin walled vessels the size of a volley ball hollowed through a hole the size of a quarter. With these skills and the encouragement of his family, he began to sell my work at craft fairs, consignment shops, and through the internet. He now spreads his love of the craft through demonstrations.dkdk
