Romance, some say, may not be an old concept in western civilization. Many cultural theorists, textual experts and sociologists have argued that sexuality, which is the foundation for modern day romance, is a rather new creation of society dating back only a couple of hundred years. More traditional research, however, claims to find evidence of romance and intimate love in all cultures throughout history. In this free video series on interpersonal relationship advice, licensed marriage and family therapist Patti German shares skills and techniques for working through relationships of many different kinds. German has advice for spouses who need to rekindle lost passion and love, friends who feel that continuing the relationship might not be a smart choice and couples just trying to understand each other better. German cuts through many naive notions of romance and gender, explaining that getting to know your man is better than getting to know "how a man thinks" in general. Her professional advice is a cut above the usual aphorisms.
